As of this writing, so many people are still suffering fro the flood waters brought about by the recent typhoons that crossed the Philippine islands. Thousands have lost most if not all of their material possessions and a few hundred lost their lives. People have began to ask- is this a punishment from our God for all our hurting Mother Nature. Obviously in these circumstances one would be hard pressed to be grateful. But come to think of it, if we only consider things are temporary but count as most precious our relationships with God and our fellowmen then losing things could be seen from a different light. If during these trying times our relationships have grown deeper and stronger then we have so much to be thankful for!

When one is full of gratitude then it is so much easier to bear the trials that come our way. Why can people be so destructive towards each other and to Mother Nature? Perhaps because we have not been Truthful. Sometimes we tend to believe that we are right but that is only as far as we are concerned. We try to force Truth to our side instead of the other way around. But the Truth can't be coerced. Only God has the monopoly of the Truth and if we are on God's side by following His law and building a relationship with Him then chances are we won't stray away from the Truth.

Because the Truth keeps our feet on the ground and gives us no illusions about what to expect in life. At times the Truth is not easily visible nor recognized. This is so that we exert effort to uncover it since every Truth is like a treasure. But for those who are brave enough and faithful to our Creator it may be really difficult to accept what Truth demands. My favourite definition of Love comes from St. Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, chapter 13, verses 4 to 7:

Here is an excerpt from an article written by Gary Chapmad entitled "The Five Love Languages".
Gary has discovered five fundamental languages of love from his many years of counseling sessions. These are:

1. Gifts

My academic background is anthropology, the study of cultures. We
have never discovered a culture in which gift-giving is not an
expression of love.
A gift is a physical symbol that the giver is thinking about you. A
gift doesn't have to be expensive. People have always said that it's the
thought that counts. But I remind couples that it's not the thought left in your head that counts; it's the gift that came out of the thought in your head.

2. Acts of Service

The Bible says, "Love not in word only but in deed" (Cf. 1 John
3:18). Do something. This love language is cooking meals, washing dishes,
vacuuming floors, washing cars, taking the dog for a walk. It's doing
anything that you know your spouse would like for you to do. When your
spouse complains about uncompleted tasks, pick up on these comments. Learn
to speak through acts of service.

3. Words of Affirmation

Another way to express love is to use words that affirm your spouse:
"You look nice in that dress." "You look sharp in that suit." "I really
appreciate what you did yesterday."

4. Quality Time

Quality time is not sitting in the same room watching television
or on your computer. Rather, sit on the couch with the TV or
computer off
and look at each other and talk. Take a walk or go out to eat, just
the two
of you, and talk. When you give your spouse quality time, you're not
reading a
book or watching television or playing computer games. You're
focusing on him or her. Maybe you are doing something that both of you
like to do, but your focus is on being together, not on the activity
itself.

5. Physical Touch

We've long known the power of physical touch: holding hands,
kissing, embracing, sexual intercourse, running your hand through her
hair, putting your hand on his leg as you drive down the road -- touching
in an affirming way.

Perhaps it is true that if you Do what you Love then you will zealously fulfill your work no matter what the circumstances are. So does Love and Work truly mix? At times it would seem unjust to love but in reality that would be the best thing to do. Someone has said that in marriage we should not play fair. I believe if each spouse do not wish to be outdone in Love then they will not have to measure their efforts.

Perfect Love (excerpt from A Love Worth Giving by Max Lucado)

Isn’t it good to know that even when we don’t love with a perfect love, he does? God always nourishes what is right. He always applauds what is right. He has never done wrong, led one person to do wrong, or rejoiced when anyone did wrong. For he is love, and love “does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth” (1 Cor. 13:6).
God passes the test of 1 Corinthians 13:6. Well, he should; he drafted it.
So where does this leave us? Perhaps with a trio of reminders. When it comes to love:
Be careful.
Until love is stirred, let God’s love be enough for you. There are seasons when God allows us to feel the frailty of human love so we’ll appreciate the strength of his love. Didn’t he do this with David? Saul turned on him. Michal, his wife, betrayed him. Jonathan and Samuel were David’s friends, but they couldn’t follow him into the wilderness. Be prayerful.
What if it’s too late? Specifically, what if you’re married to someone you don’t love—or who doesn’t love you? Many choose to leave. That may be the step you take. But if it is, take at least a thousand others first. And bathe every one of those steps in prayer. Love is a fruit of the Spirit. Ask God to help you love as he loves. “God has given us the Holy Spirit, who fills our hearts with his love” (Rom. 5:5). Ask everyone you know to pray for you. Your friends. Your family. Your church leaders. Get your name on every prayer list available. And, most of all, pray for and, if possible, with your spouse. Be grateful for those who love you. Be grateful for those who have encouraged you to do what is right and applauded when you did. Do you have people like that in your world? If so, you are doubly blessed. Be grateful for them. And be grateful for your Father in heaven.

But apparently the standards of the world manage to fool us into thinking otherwise. Does God show His Love to us in very perceptible ways? I believe so. If we but look into ourselves we will discover how much God cares for us even in the most unfortunate circumstances. Jesus and many other wise men have advised us to live simply because in so doing we will be less prone to be enamored with our material possessions. Today as I write this post the Filipino nation joins the family of the late President Corazon Aquino as she is laid to her final rest. And I know that is main reason why she is endeared to millions of Filipinos as can be shown by the outpouring of sympathies and the vast crowd of people who have braved the rains just to join the funeral cortege.
